StatewideInsurance Commissioner
๐Ÿ”ต๐Ÿ”ต Ben Allen (D) vs. Jane Kim (D)
Jane Kim
Ariel's Note: The Solano Household struggled a lot with our choice for Insurance Commissioner. Ultimately we decided to vote for Jane Kim. While her proposals seem very ambitious, we think there needs to be radical change for insurance in California, and believe Kim is the right candidate to bring such change.
LocalBoard of Equalization โ€” District 1
Shannon Grove (R) vs. Nelson Esparza (D)
Nelson Esparza
LocalCongress โ€” District 7
๐Ÿ”ต๐Ÿ”ต Doris Matsui (D) vs. Mai Vang (D)
Mai Vang
Ariel's Note: This was a split decision in the Solano house. Ultimately I chose Mai Vang as I think we need a change from Doris Matsui who is 81 and will be 84 at the end of the next term. Vang's No-corporate-PAC pledge is also very important to me.
LocalCongress โ€” District 3
Ami Bera (D) vs. Robb Tucker (R)

JudicialSupreme Court & Court of Appeal โ€” Retention Votes
Ariel's Note: After much research I voted YES on all the judges as I saw no major red flags or anything I felt should disqualify them from the bench. Retention votes are a YES or NO โ€” you're not choosing between candidates.

Vote for up to 3 ยท Paul Lindsay ยท Bret Bartholomew ยท John Moua ยท Kimberly Martin
Paul Lindsay
Bret Bartholomew
John Moua
Ariel's Note: The ballot says to pick no more than 3 candidates. These are my three choices.
Prop 1Housing Bonds
Borrow $11.25B for affordable housing
โœ… YES
Prop 2Rainy Day Fund
Raise state reserve limit from 10% to 20%
โœ… YES
Prop 3Make Education Tax Permanent
Make the higher-earner income tax permanent
โœ… YES
Prop 4Public Campaign Financing
Allow public financing of political campaigns
โœ… YES
Prop 5Recall Reform
Delay replacing recalled state officials to a separate election
โœ… YES
Prop 37Low-Cost Mortgages
Create low-cost mortgages for new home construction
โœ… YES
Prop 38Immunology Research Bond
Borrow $8.4B for cancer/heart disease/Alzheimer's research
โŒ NO
Ariel's Note: While I understand this prop would give billions to medical research, a majority of this money goes to just one single research facility. This seems to be intentionally written to only give money to this specific facility. Because of this, I'm voting no.
Prop 39Voter ID
Require government-issued ID to vote in person or by mail
โŒ NO
Prop 40Billionaire Tax
One-time 5% tax on ~200 CA billionaires ยท Connected to Props 41 & 42
โœ… YES
Prop 41Audit New Tax Programs
Would nullify Prop 40 if it gets more YES votes
โŒ NO
Prop 42Ban Wealth Taxes
Would nullify Prop 40 if it gets more YES votes
โŒ NO
Prop 43Higher Threshold for Local Taxes
Raise citizen-driven local special tax threshold to two-thirds
โŒ NO
Prop 44Community Clinic Spending
Require community clinics to spend 90% on patient care
โŒ NO
Ariel's Note: There is no question that community clinics should be spending a majority of their funding on patients. After a lot of research I feel this prop will do more harm than good, especially since most community clinics already spend nearly 80% of their revenue on patient care.
Prop 45CEQA Reform
Speed up environmental reviews for housing & infrastructure
โŒ NO
Ariel's Note: I do believe we need to speed up the environmental review process for numerous reasons, but the inclusion of "broadband" in this proposition I believe will lead companies to try and use this towards Data Centers. For that reason alone, I am voting no.
Measure HLos Rios Community College Bond
$1.1B bond for Los Rios facilities ยท Sacramento/Yolo counties
โœ… YES
Measure MSacramento City USD Parcel Tax
Parcel tax for special education ยท Sacramento City Unified
โœ… YES
